Fixed where
it sits.

TJ’s Fab & Mobile Repair is a certified provider of United Axle’s on-site spindle repair system — a major advantage for drivers and fleets who want to avoid costly axle housing replacement. Traditional spindle failure often means replacing the entire axle, towing the truck to a shop, and losing a full day or more of productivity.

Rather than towing your vehicle shop-side, our fully-equipped mobile unit comes to your location and performs everything on-site. We handle spindles that are bent, cracked, worn from bearing/seal failure or knocked out of alignment.

The Process

01

Inspect the axle housing

02

Check bearing journals

03

Remove the damaged spindle

04

Install precision-welded replacement

05

Reassemble bearings, seals & hubs

06

Align & road-test

02

Why spindles
fail

Bearing failure

The most common cause. Overheated or dry bearings seize or spin on the spindle, grinding grooves or “blueing” into the metal and pushing journals out of round.

Seal failure

Dry, cracked or poorly installed seals let dirt, water and debris in — scoring bearing and spindle surfaces until the bearing walks.

Overloading & improper torque

Loads over rated capacity, unbalanced loads, or bearings set too tight or too loose cause metal fatigue, bending and cracking.

Skipped maintenance

Missed hub inspections and ignored wheel-end heat let minor wear become catastrophic — a failed spindle can damage the entire axle housing.

Warning Signs

  • Excessive wheel-end heat or burnt-smelling grease after a trip
  • Grease leaking past the hub seal
  • Wheel wobble or vibration at highway speeds
  • Uneven or accelerated tire wear on one side of the axle
  • A grinding or scraping noise near the hub assembly
  • Blue, black, or discolored spindle metal
  • Hub movement when rocking the wheel side-to-side

If you notice any of these signs, shut down the unit and call for on-site spindle inspection before the damage spreads to the axle tube or hub assembly.
